I THINK, but don’t have the patience to look up the actual rough, that the speech bubble was “toned down” to “muzzle you” from the more homicidal “put you to sleep”. NOT sure if that was for the better, but as was oft the case during my “Trib Years” sometimes you had to “bend over” to cash the check.

A disappointment/rationalization perhaps obliquely referred to in the “up-the-side” Elvis Costello lyric fragment.
