The “middle name” probably should have read “Of course it’s fun until someone pokes an eye out.” However instead it was a probably too oblique reference to Mel’s manliness (see my very first newsletter here) as the voice of John Smith in the then current Disney cartoon version, that was “coming out” (gay reference noted, but not intended) that month.
